Robert Maguire wins the Horse and Hound Foxhunter Second Round

The David Broome Event Centre hosted the Wales and West six day show over the weekend which accumulated in the Horse and Hound Foxhunter Second Round. The seventy one starters were all fighting it out for the two Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) qualification tickets that were up for grabs along with five Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival qualification tickets.

Nineteen combinations made it into the first jump off which saw only seven jump clear and go forward to the final jump off. It was Wigan based Robert Maguire that came out on top riding his own seven year old bay gelding Elixir St. Jumping three clears round the testing track Robert came home with a jump off time of 46.54 seconds to take the first HOYS tickets. Taking the other HOYS qualification and second place was Essex based Sally Lane. Sally was partnering her own nine year old grey stallion Vitaal G who jumped a careful clear in the final jump off in a time of 53.51 seconds.

Alan Thomas from Mid Glamorgan rode Alan James’s nine year old bay gelding Obligado. Jumping a quick round in 45.31 seconds Alan was unlucky to have one fence down putting him into third place. Although he picked up qualification for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival he just missed out on the ever valuable HOYS qualification.

Fourth place went to Jude Burgess from Tonbridge, Kent riding Horsepower Motor Centre Ltd’s eight year old grey mare Pin Up Du Paradis. This combination again jumped round in a very quick time but lowering two poles for a total of eight faults left them in fourth position.

Claiming the final Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival qualification was Crawley based Louise Pavitt who rode the seven year old brown stallion El-Thuder owned by Brendon Stud. Louise jumped round in 40.87 seconds but also lowered two poles for eight faults.
